‘Twas the night before Christmas

…and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.

I’m certain that line is one of the first that comes to mind on this day of the year, woven as it is into our collective consciousness—that special image of the peace and tranquility of Christmas Eve, the lights sparkling on the tree and the children asleep upstairs, no doubt already dreaming of the toys that will await them in the morning. I think peace is one of the qualities most strongly associated with this time of year—not just Christmas, but winter. Winter is a time of pulling inward. It’s a sort of hibernation—a hunkering-down, curling into the warmth of being in our homes, watching the snow-muffled world outside slow down too (or maybe not snow-muffled, here in Baltimore, anyway). For these next few months, while the outside world rests and recovers, we’re also resting and recovering, processing the year that’s been and preparing for the year that lies ahead.

We tend to seek our peace at home. Sometimes, that can be challenging, especially if you’re a work-from-home employee, and the lines are blurred between a working space and a resting space. Plus, our lives can get chaotic—children with energy and schedules, family bustling in and out, our own projects and goals that can sometimes overwhelm us. It’s important for us to have places to return to in our times of stress and busyness, places where we can stop and recharge, comfortably, easily. Besides meeting the other demands of our lives—offering a workspace, storage space, utility—that’s probably the most important thing our home does. It gives us a dedicated place for us to just be.

Curating that kind of space can sometimes become an overwhelming task in and of itself. There are a lot of choices—big and small—that go into really customizing a space. Sure, you have to select the furniture, but that alone opens up a host of other questions. What kind of textiles do you want? What colors? What cushion styles? Never mind the rest of it, the paint choices, the fixtures, the lighting, the art. There’s undoubtedly, of course, a joy to this creativity, to the act of putting intention into your space. But it’s also a lot of work—and especially a lot of work alone.

So why do it alone? At Woodside Home, we’re here to hand over the joy and take over the tedious parts ourselves. We offer the interior design services you need to curate the perfect space for you to find your peace in. We have high-quality custom furnishings and window treatments—custom is the way to go when it comes to perfecting personal comfort—beautiful rugs, art, and light fixtures, all ready for you at below retail prices. Your personal remodel should be the furthest thing from stressful, and we’re here to make sure that’s the case.

Are you ready to take that next step? Let’s talk! Send me an email anytime, and we can get started on crafting your perfect peaceful space.

Now, I assume, the stockings are hung by the chimney with care—though maybe you yourself aren’t still waiting for St. Nick. Either way, this really is a day of peace. I hope you’re taking some time to sip a hot chocolate or a cup of tea, enjoy some fresh-baked Christmas cookies, and maybe watch a holiday special (the Charlie Brown special always holds a special place in our Christmas catalog).

In conclusion: a very Merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good night!
